My mother made a similar lemon pie here in the UK many years ago .It was a firm favourite of mine.Have a safe journey and I am certain you will return enthused and ready to embark on another fascinating book!, Julie.

Thank you, Julie! I would bet with canned milk used in British baking there would be a lemon icebox pie. Thank you!

Wow! What a great book! We were looking through it with some friends who were at our house and everyone agreed that they wanted to try everything in the book. The first thing I'll be baking is the Peach Crostata.

One thing that struck me. I'm of Scandinavian descent and we're pretty great bakers too. I live in Minnesota and haven't traveled too much in the South. Reading your book made me realize that we're more alike than we're different and that if we could all just bake together our country wouldn't be at such odds. I just watched a clip of Kamala Harris visiting a Penzey's spice store in Pittsburgh as she is there to prepare for the debate. She's a cook, and I watched her relate to the surprised shoppers there on a Saturday shopping for spices. She talks to people and listens to them. That's who belongs in the White House. I'm also proud to have my governor Tim Walz on the ticket with her. Another cook who knows how to relate to people and will do a fine job as our next Vice President.

People say that you shouldn't talk about politics, but this election is too important not to.

I understand, Karen! Thank you for ordering a copy and sharing it with your Minnesota friends. I do think we are more alike than different, and that really came across after researching this book.

Congratulations, and how interesting! I'm looking forward to baking from your book and to seeing your presentation for Melissa's Produce!

Melissa's sent me your brief bio that mentioned that you studied at Ecole de Cuisine La Varenne. So did I! I studied and worked there from 1976 to 1982. When were you there?

Best wishes, and good luck with the book!

Faye, I remember you! I was there for a brief pastry course in 1981 and again in 84 for an advanced course. Thank you!

Thank you! I was there in 1981 but not in 84.

Wonderful that you took two courses at La Varenne! Thank you for remembering me!

Did you take classes from Pastry Chef Albert Jorant or Denis Ruffel? They were so good! It makes so much sense that you took those classes, as if in preparation to write your book! I can't wait to read it and to bake from it!

Was your advanced course with Chef Fernand Chambrette? He was the Head Chef of the school and we loved him so much. He and I co-authored a cookbook in French, La Cuisine du Poisson.

All the best,

Faye

Yes, the pastry course from Albert Jorant. And yes, Chef Chambrette. It was an invaluable experience in so many ways! πŸ‡«πŸ‡·

I received my book and have been looking out it throughout the day. My husband saw it on the table and spend a good hour looking at the recipes and reading stories out loud! He wants to start trying the different biscuits. He helps cook in the kitchen, but usually doesn't read the cookbooks. This one has caught his eye and I think he intends to bake the biscuits himself! I love his interest in something that I love to do, BAKE! Best of luck on your tour. I live in NJ, so that is not on your route. I will be following your travels through your blog. Karen

Thank you, Karen! What wonderful news my book has inspired a new baker. And two things about good biscuits - the more you bake the better you get. And, butter them while they’re hot!
