My mom listened to Nathalie Dupree on the radio. In our home, she was just "Nathalie", like a dear friend or part of the extended family. If I came home while her show was on, I would find my mom laughing and listening, her head tilted, looking so relaxed and happy. Nathalie's recipes are our birthday cakes, woven into some of our happiest memories. I inherited my mom's cookbooks, and they are held together by rubber bands because she used them until the pages were falling out. Some days I pull one down and flip through it, to see my mom's notes: "Kids love this", or, "Nathalie says take out of oven while not quite set". I'm not much of a cook, and my mom didn't love cooking the way she loved gardening or sewing, but she loved spending time with Nathalie--she would laugh and laugh and I am so grateful to Nathalie Dupree for bringing that much happiness to my mom's life by being herself and sharing that with her listeners.
Oh I hope so! I was in my early 20s when I would spend afternoons watching her, notebook in hand trying to scribble down her recipes! What fond memories.
I grew up in Monroe just over from Social Circle and have followed Natalie’s career. Like you I graduated from UGA and FACS. I have just relocated from Alpharetta to Old Hickory, TN for my career. I am a sales manager for luxury appliances and cooking is near and dear to me. Thank you for the wonderful article on Natalie, she is a treasure!
A long long time ago, my husband learned to make real biscuits (for which he is now famous locally) from Nathalie when we discovered her on tv! We didn't know about White Lily flour until we watched her and found out about only flour for the best biscuits. We had to order the White Lily, before we began bringing back bags of it when we visited relatives in the South every year: White Lily flour, Cheerwine, and Charleston Gold Rice! The SUV was loaded!
CeeCee, I love this! Imagine an SUV crammed with Cheerwine, Charleston Gold, and White Lily! Am sure you were missing something - we’ve brought back Camellia plants from Charleston and have them planted at the back door. And you are right, Nathalie is a blessing and a treasure!
Darn! No Camellia! BUT I did return with an ivy "clipping" in a water bottle--does that count? I had generously helped someone "trim" some overgrown ivy. . . just a little sprig! And two large ceramic fish pots buckled in the back seats and filled with unworn clothing and gifts! And always Bennie Wafers.

Beth, this is a lovely tribute to Nathalie and your mom! Thank you for sharing. I will make sure that Nathalie reads this! ❤️
Oh, thank you. My mom would have been so pleased. What a delight it was to see Nathalie's name in my In Box, so I owe you thanks as well.
❤️❤️❤️
I just searched for Ms. Dupree. I fondly remember watching her on PBS (the original HGTV/Food Network!). So happy to receive your email about her.
Am sure your comment, Debbie, will bring a smile to Nathalie’s face!

She receives this newsletter. She will hear you! ❤️
