Thank you for these shortcuts. I love a good simple recipe. We can’t go all out all the time! I am also hooked on your writing. It’s always an excellent read. Thank you.

Best quote ‘’This is like telling you what to do with your leftover whisky. Cake isn’t a leftover. Cake is cake, and it is either eaten or it isn’t .....” we never have extra cake. We work hard to savor it and not be a teenage boy and eat it all in one day.

Coronation Chicken is evil. It tastes powdery from the curry powder, and if you try and go off in another direction, it is no longer Coronation Chicken! Am looking forward however to your Queen of Puddings post - I've never attempted it either but it had a vogue in 'British' casual fine dining restaurants about a decade ago I very much enjoyed.

My mom didn't even pretend to fake it. She's not much of a cook, with a few exceptions. When my dad worked second shift, we ate out of a can most nights. I detest canned pasta as a result and never served it to my kids. Same with kool-aid. Her go-to casserole was a riff off cottage/shepherd's pie, but it lacked flavor.

Your skillet macaroni sounds tasty. I do mine a little different--all made in one skillet. I created it based off a different pasta dish I make--that one is more of a homemade hamburger helper. No processed stuff. Cooking the noodles in a water & milk mixture with the spices, so it thickens a little, hit it with the cheese at the end. Creamy and delicious. When I bake macaroni, I make a white sauce, add seasonings and cheese and combine with the noodles.

Tomato pie! Would have loved to be a hag in that kitchen… lots of laughs. Also a Anna Maria fan. Her coneflower fabrics are so sweet!

Peg’s charcuterie dinner! In addition , we add a can or two of seafood like smoked oysters and some cheese. We call it a Spanish dinner because this is what our friends haul out around 10 pm most nights.

Anne! I started reading and thought, wow, this Sarah person and I are super simpatico 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 Thank you for taking my comments seriously, first of all, and for writing a whole post about my dilemma/s (snack dinner forever!) I'm kind of in shock, and very grateful.

How did you know I was looking for a macaroni and cheese recipe like that today? I'm having an informal dinner party with high school friends that I haven't seen in awhile and I'm going to make my my favorite brisket recipe, baked macaroni and cheese and a salad. Earlier this week we were tired and did enjoy a frozen lasagna. Sometimes there's nothing better than that. I also keep cans of cream of mushroom soup in my pantry and my easiest recipe is to mix a can with a small can of diced tomatoes and pour it over some round steak in the slow cooker. The tomatoes and soup look terrible when first mixed together and then turn into a wonderful gravy about 6 hours later. I'm too lazy to cut up an onion when I make this recipe and throw in some dried onions from Penzey's.
